What is the QR Code Generator - Create Custom QR Codes?
The QR Code Generator is a digital graphics tool that encodes large amounts of data (like URLs, VCards, or plain text) into a two-dimensional matrix barcode (Quick Response code) that can be scanned by any smartphone camera.
How to use the QR Code Generator - Create Custom QR Codes
- Select the type of data you want to encode (URL, Text, Wi-Fi).
- Enter the required information into the fields.
- The QR code image will generate and update in real-time.
- Click 'Download' to save the high-quality image for printing.
Example
You enter the URL 'https://example.com'. The tool encodes the string, calculates error correction data, and paints the data matrix onto an HTML canvas, producing a scannable square image instantly.
Understanding Your Results
The resulting image can be printed on physical media or displayed on screens. When scanned by a phone camera, the phone will automatically decode the matrix and prompt the user to open the link or read the text.
Common Use Cases
- Marketing: Placing a QR code on a business card or billboard that directs users to a promotional landing page.
- Hospitality: Generating a QR code for restaurant tables so customers can view a digital PDF menu.
- Networking: Creating a QR code that automatically logs guests into your home or office Wi-Fi network.
How it Works
The tool uses the Reed-Solomon error correction algorithm to translate your data into binary, then maps that binary into the black-and-white grid pattern of a QR code. It adds standard positioning squares in three corners so cameras know how to orient the scan.
Tips & Accuracy Notes
- •The more data you put into a QR code, the denser and more complex the pixel grid becomes. Very complex grids must be printed larger to remain scannable.
- •Use URL shorteners before generating a QR code to keep the grid simple and highly scannable.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do QR codes expire?
The QR codes generated by our tool are 'Static'. They contain the raw data itself. They never expire and will work forever. (Dynamic QR codes, which rely on a redirect server, can expire, but we do not use those).
What is Error Correction?
QR codes have built-in redundancy. Depending on the level chosen, up to 30% of the QR code image can be damaged, covered up, or ripped off, and a phone will still be able to scan and read it perfectly.
